When you're looking for a tight menu of mouthwatering, gourmet subs at reasonable prices, you can do worse than Jimmy John's. The ever-expanding franchise of sub shops has had locations come and go in the Fox Cities over the past few years, most in weirdly inconvenient locations. The new branch at the corner of Richmond and Northland in Appleton is no exception.

This Jimmy John's franchise is a near carbon-copy of all the other area locations, though seemingly smaller due to being wedged in a tight storefront between Blockbuster Video and the recently-opened Gunderson's Cleaners. There is no drive-through at this location, as there was at the now-defunct location near Best Buy. Access and parking can be a problem, depending on what times of day you come and which direction you are coming from. The corner area this Jimmy John's sits on also houses Taco Bell and a large Kwik Trip gas station, with an existing concrete strip of greenspace bottlenecking traffic at peak times of day. One-way divided highway turn lanes on Northland Avenue also make access difficult.

Service was prompt and thorough, and the sandwich I ordered was made as requested. Various other visits to Jimmy John's locations in the area have been hit or miss when it came to customizing an order, but this location got my sandwich correct when I asked them to ease up on the lettuce.

One thing that sets Jimmy John's apart from rival shops like Subway is a consistent menu that's easy to order from. They feature sixteen main sandwiches in addition to sides like cookies, chips and drinks. While your bread choices are more limited than Subway, Jimmy Johns bread is tastes fresher and heartier than what I typically experience at Subway. A Jimmy John's sub is flavorful, ample and very much deserving of the "gourmet" label.

Conclusion:

Jimmy John's has fast become one of my favorite sandwich shops because of their tasty selection of sandwiches and fast service. The thing that prevents me from being a frequent customer of Jimmy John's is the precariously difficult locations in which they seem to pop up. While the current College Avenue and former Wisconsin Avenue and Calumet Street locations were merely mildly inconvenient, the high traffic and poor access surrounding this Richmond Street location makes repeat business seem less likely for me.
