According to their website, Beefeaters is a "British themed restaurant serving up classic pub dishes, with our own twist, as well as American favorites." Brought to the Valley by the same family that runs Good Company and Pullman's, Beefeaters is an eclectically-themed restaurant serving up fantastic food with plenty of British flair.

A new building in the business park off of Highway 41 and Ballard Road in Appleton, the style at Beefeaters is unmistakably English -- from the bright-red telephone booth full of British police helmets, the "Brits to Yanks" glossary on the back of the menu, the British flag on the patio table umbrellas and more. When I went, we were seated in a small booth with high backs, perfectly suited for a dinner for two. There are larger booths and tables as well, as well as a beautiful patio and pub area.

Our server, dressed in a striped polo shirt that reminded me of a rugby player, was attentive and easy to deal with. During the week, seating didn't appear to be a problem, but during peak times, I could see there being a wait for seating as there often is at Good Company or Pullman's. Food was served relatively quickly.

We stopped at Beefeaters on "surf and turf night," so we both had the special. I had mine with haddock, and my girlfriend had it with the jumbo shrimp. We also each had pub salads, which are inexpensive, delicious starter salads. Our steak was a good cut of meat, cooked well and very flavorful. I had the "waffle chips," which were large, plentiful and tasty. She had the "jacket potato," a big, nice-looking baked potato. The haddock filet was available either broiled or fried, and I opted for the fried, which was very good. The jumbo butterflied fried shrimp, four of them served in a crock, were enormous, crunchy and very delicious. The menu boasts many British favorites like fish and chips, bangers and mash, as well as many American favorites.

Conclusion:

So far, we've never gone wrong dining at the Reader family's chain of restaurants, and our first visit to Beefeaters left us wanting to come back and try more things on the expansive menu. It is a wonderful hidden gem on the northside of Appleton and well worth the trip from anywhere in the Fox Cities. It is easy to get to, in part due to its proximity to the highway. If you're looking for good food, great atmosphere and a menu that's a fun read in itself, Beefeaters is a great bet.

Enjoyable experience

My wife and I visited Beefeaters a while back and the menu and beer selections were quite outstanding. It was all around a great experience. Surely we will be going back soon.
